Sea buckthorn is probably one of the most interesting berries in the world.
And you’ve most likely never heard of it.
Brilliant orange. Packed full of character. Growing in some of the most hostile conditions you could throw at a plant.
Oh yeah, and while it grows, it does its bit to make the area around it just that little bit better.
We love an underdog at Barti Rum. But there's something we love even more something that makes the most of the hand it’s dealt.
Sea buckthorn is all of this and more.
It’s a coastal plant, thriving in nutrient-poor soil with a life to everything the sea and weather can throw at it.
And faced with all of that, it doesn’t just survive. It thrives. Producing the most extraordinary bright orange berries, with crisp citrus flavours and a tropical character.
When we started thinking about flavour combinations to go with Barti, sea buckthorn was first on the list. Not because it was trending, not because we were trying to be interesting. But because the flavour was sublime and I felt the story of Barti was somehow entwined with the story of the sea buckthorn berry.
Born on the coast.
Full gale in its face.
Making the very best of the hand it’s been dealt.
In life, there are always a thousand reasons why something shouldn’t work. But against the odds, against the challenges, sometimes things do.
And we’ll raise a big glass (or can) of our award winning Sea Buckthorn Fizz, to that.
