B Corp at Barti: More Than a Badge

It’s been a journey, it’s been a process… and we’re proud to say that we continue to be B Corp accredited! 🌍

What this means is that Barti Rum Ltd has been recognised by world leading accreditors B Lab, for being a business which makes decisions based on environmental and social impact, not just profit. 

The culture at Barti means we have naturally been on this journey since day one, but we're excited to announce we continue to be recognised with B Corp certification this year! 

Some of the things we are doing and will continue to do simply don't make sense in terms of profit.

It is cheaper to use new glass for a bottle, but we choose recycled. It is cheaper to use standard labels, but we choose biodegradable labels. It is cheaper not to pay living wage or above, but we are living wage certified. 

It is cheaper not to install solar panels on the warehouse, but we chose to do it. It is cheaper to buy tree planting carbon credits but we choose to fund research into a new even more effective type of carbon capture under the sea. 

It is cheaper to use plastic packaging for postage, but we use cardboard and paper gum tape with biodegradable sticky stuff on it. It is a pain in the bum, but it's just... 

...better. 

We would rather feel good about the decisions we make as a business rather than be the cheapest or the most profitable. Of course we will categorically say we are not perfect, nobody is. There is more to do, but this is a nice little step in a long journey.

We promise to you that of all the hundreds of decisions we make as a business every single day, we'll keep trying to make good, positive impact ones, while continuing to deliver the best spiced rum in the world.
